Biography

Calum is a proud Hampton Roads native and a graduate of Old Dominion University, where he received a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Philosophy and a Master’s in Humanities. Before attending law school, Calum worked as a legal assistant in Norfolk, focusing on commercial real estate and corporate securities and finance. Calum attended law school at the College of William & Mary, where he concentrated in criminal law. During law school, Calum worked with both his alma mater’s Title IX and Equity Diversity Office and Public Defender offices throughout the Hampton Roads area. In those roles, Calum handled matters of employment discrimination, sexual misconduct, and all manner of criminal charges from the initial complaint and investigation to the resolution at trial or administrative hearing.

Prior to forming Welch & Wright, PLLC with Nick Wright, Calum worked in domestic relations in Northern Virginia and traffic and criminal defense in Central Virginia. When time allows, Calum will still take on cases involving estate planning and litigation, divorce and other domestic relations matters, and cases involving mental health, from conservatorship and guardianship to matters of involuntary commitment. Calum’s experience across practice areas gives him a broad understanding of the legal system, which he uses to develop creative, holistic solutions to every case, no matter how complex. Calum understands that each case is unique and personal to the clients he serves and works to achieve results that are not only a success inside the courtroom, but for years to come after the final verdict is rendered.

Outside of work, Calum enjoys spending time near the water, hiking with his wife, and supporting the Washington Commanders during each of their rare victories.
